Our learning about deforestation

Yesterday Room 3 talked about deforestation. Deforestation is where a large forest is cleared by bulldozers. People clear forests to make room for cities and for timber. To find this out we brainstormed our ideas. The poor animals that live in the forests don't stand a chance against the bulldozers! 12 million hectares of forest get cut down every year. This causes the extinction of 50,000 species of plants, animals and insects each year. Learning this made us feel extremely upset and angry! We are glad that in New Zealand we protect our native bush and animals.

We watched this You Tube clip to learn more.

Thank you for watching, if you have an idea about how we could take action, post your comment below.

wow, how about we each plant a few trees at our houses to help the environment and not cut down our own little sections of native bush on our property, this will help the nz native birds have a home here in NZ! The weston family

  2. We are so lucky in New Zealand that most of the time people look after our environment. What do you think would happen if some people decided to start bulldozing down the native forests and bush in New Zealand?

  3. Wow that is sad. I dont think we realize how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful country where people fight to keep our land and animals safe. I think that if we can all be made aware of the little things that make a difference like recycling and planting trees we will have a better future.
I also think its fantastic how technology works to teach us about the world and even better how we can work together to change the world.
